I finally watched “The Wind Rises”, by Studio Ghibli. The movie revolves around Jiro, a young airplane engineer during the times of WW2.
What captivated me the most about the movie was how no matter what happened in Jiro’s life, he always faced forwards and continued to chase his dream. “I want to build a beautiful plane”, he says, and he does just that. With such a fixation on his goal, Jiro was able to withstand anything that came at him in life, because he could always rely back on his dream.
When I think what I am missing in my life, a grand dream such as Jiro’s may be just that. A dream grand enough that it will actually appear in my dreams, that I can just commit myself fully to. Of course, this is an idealistic thought. But the idea of dreamers, working together, who all share the same desire, definitely has an air of romanticism to it.
