I built this wooden shrine two years ago during my time at Autodesk. After work was over I would run over to the maker space and play with the machines there. My favorite was the laser cutter, which I eventually used to build this shrine.
This mini shrine is based on the “Moriya Shrine”, which is a place in the Touhou game series, but is also a place in real life. When I visited Japan last year, I paid a visit to the real Moriya Shrine, which is known as Suwa Taisha (Grand Suwa Shrine).
I designed this wooden recreation based on a few reference images and my memory. Unfortunately I never saved the design files, so this shrine is now a one-of-a-kind antique. I wonder if a historian many eras later will wonder why a model is so far from its home.
